El Prat is the largest airport on the Mediterranean coast and it is constantly expanding. It consists of two passenger terminals: T1 which handles both domestic and international flights, and T2 which serves low-cost carriers' voyages. T1 and T2 are 4 km (2.5 miles) apart and connected with a free shuttle bus (green). It runs every 6-7 min around the clock and takes around 10-15 min to complete the loop.

The terminal building has an area of 60 hectares and a large territory for park aprons. Shortly, the construction of a satellite terminal, T1S, is planned. T1 consists of five boarding zones according to destination, 144 check-in counters, 50 aerobridges (fingers), and a lot of other facilities. The terminal's services include a currency exchange kiosk, Duty-free stores, food courts, bars, retail concessions, etc. T1 is the main BCN terminal handling both international and local voyages. Terminal T2 consists of three modules, T2A, T2B, and T2C, which are linked via the boarding zone (access only for passengers). The T2B terminal hall is divided into three zones known as Terminal B, Olympic Terminal, and Intermodal Building. Although T2 is a secondary terminal that serves low-cost carriers' flights only, it also offers a lot of services for travellers such as restaurants, lounges, car rental offices, park spots, and much more. There are 101 gates situated in T1. With its appearance on the Barcelona Airport BCN map in 2009, the Airport was able to reach more than 90 flight operations per hour, thus improving the convenience of travel for millions of passengers.
Boarding Gates A, B, and C can be found on Floor 0 in T1. Boarding zone B serves Schengen flight departures, while C zone operates flights to regional destinations as well as Schengen voyages.

El Prat Aeropuerto provides travellers with more than 19 000 parking spaces, most of which are placed in the T1 precinct. The General T1 parking is linked to the terminal building by a walkway. The Park Express T1 can be reached by moving to the Departures side of the terminal. In T1 park, drivers have 10 min free of charge to drop off or pick up passengers. The T2 park lot is situated opposite and along the T2 building. The Car Park Building PA which is located in front of T2A is presently closed for renovation. Thus, you can use the T2C Parking PC which operates on the ground floor. The gateway connection of T2A and T2C with the park amenities is closed, so passengers can access T2C only through the exterior.

The train station is conveniently situated 200 metres from the T2 building, just next to the T2 car park, and is linked to the facility through a pedestrian bridge. The R2 Nord line connects El Prat T2 with the central district of the city and the Barcelona metropolitan area. The train runs every 30 min. The R2 Nord departs from Maçanet-Massanes station, passes through Granollers, and terminates at BCN. It is a direct route without transfers. To reach the central district, travellers can use the fast and economical Barcelona Metro. The line L9 Sud Metro connects the Catalan capital centre with El Prat Airport. The L9 Sud stops at 15 strategic city stations until it arrives at the terminals. The departure location is Zona Universitaria where the famous University of Barcelona and the North and South Campus of the Polytechnic University of Catalonia are situated.
